Why Community Still Matters

One of the things I’m most proud of about Bell Block is something that can’t easily be measured — our sense of community. It’s in the small things. Kids are still playing outside until the streetlights come on. Neighbours who know each other by name. People stop for a chat at the shops, the beach, or along the walkway. It’s a place where families feel safe, supported, and connected — and that’s something very special.

In a world that often feels busy, disconnected, and sometimes uncertain, Bell Block continues to stand out as a place where people still look out for one another. That doesn’t happen by accident — it’s something we all contribute to, every day, through how we show up, how we treat each other, and how we care for our shared spaces.

We’re also fortunate to have many of the services we need right here — from schools and parks to local businesses and community facilities. It’s part of what makes Bell Block such a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

But we are growing — and with that comes both opportunity and responsibility. As more people choose to call Bell Block home, we must hold onto what makes this place special. Growth shouldn’t mean losing our identity. Instead, it should mean building on it — thoughtfully adding new services, improving our public spaces, and creating places where people can continue to connect.

That’s why community voice is so important. Whether it’s through conversations, surveys, or simply sharing your thoughts, your input helps shape the future of Bell Block.

At the end of the day, a strong community isn’t something you inherit — it’s something you actively protect and grow.

Bell Block is a special place. Let’s keep it that way.
